Everything Our Travelers Ask Before Exploring the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn

The Contrasts Tour is our most popular experience, and it is easy to see why: in one morning or afternoon it shows the side of New York most visitors never see. It was born in the early 2000s, when the outer boroughs became part of tourist itineraries again, and today it is a classic for Spanish-speaking travelers. Real’s Tours NYC has offered it since 2011.

Because it takes you beyond Manhattan, it also raises many questions. Here we answer the ones we hear most often, organized so you can find yours quickly.

Before You Book

What exactly is the Contrasts Tour?

A guided cultural tour of the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn that shows the social, historical and urban diversity of New York beyond Manhattan, from hip-hop murals and Yankee Stadium to the Unisphere and the Hasidic community of Williamsburg.

How long does it last?

About 4 to 4.5 hours, depending on traffic.

What times does it depart?

There are departures at 8:45 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Where is the meeting point?

At 325 West 49th Street, at the Starbucks in Worldwide Plaza, in Midtown Manhattan. Arrive 15 minutes early, since seats are assigned on a first-come basis.

In what language is it guided?

The guides are bilingual and lead the tour in Spanish and English.

During the Tour

Which places will I see?

In the Bronx, the Joker stairs, Yankee Stadium, the Bronx courts, the 42nd Precinct and the Big Pun and “I Love The Bronx” murals. In Queens, Malba, Flushing Meadows Corona Park and the Unisphere. In Brooklyn, the Hasidic area of Williamsburg.

Do I walk a lot?

No. Most of the tour is by bus or van, with short walks at each stop. Wear comfortable shoes anyway.

Where does the tour end?

You choose: in Brooklyn, near the Manhattan Bridge, to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge on your own, or on Mulberry Street in Chinatown, near Little Italy and SoHo.

Safety, Families and Accessibility

Is the tour safe?

Yes. The route follows planned stops in well-traveled areas, always with a professional guide, and New York today has some of the lowest crime levels in its modern history.

Is it suitable for families and older travelers?

Yes. It is suitable for all ages, and since most of the time is spent in the vehicle, it works well for families with children and older travelers.

Seasons and Versions

Can I do the tour in winter?

Yes. It runs year-round, and in winter it is especially comfortable because you spend most of the time inside a heated vehicle. Dress in layers for the outdoor stops.

Is there a Christmas version?

Yes. In December, the Contrasts Tour + Dyker Heights Lights ends the day among the most famous Christmas lights in New York.

Which version should I choose?

The classic New York Contrasts Tour is perfect for a first visit. The VIP Contrasts Tour is for a smaller group in a van. The Contrasts Tour with Yankee Stadium access adds a visit inside the stadium. And the Contrasts Tour + Dyker Heights Lights is the Christmas option.
